Madrid, Spain

What could I say in a post about the capital of Spain? I mean, it has so many places and yummy food that I can’t just write it all down!

So I made a selection the places I went to. If you wanna see where to eat go to Food.

  • Parque del Retiro or “Park of the Pleasant Retreat”

It is one of the largest parks of the city and belonged to the Spanish Monarchy until the late 19th century.

Inside we can find the Rosaleda rose garden, Velázquez Palace, Crystal Palace, Retiro pond…

  • Museo del Traje

To all fashion lovers, this is a museum devoted to fashion and costumes with over 160,000 pieces and documents. It has the Givenchy’s black dress that Audrey Hepburn wore at Breakfast at Tiffany’s!

Photos of a temporal exhibition of Nancys by Agatha Ruiz de la Prada, Hannibal Laguna and Raquel García López.
  • Museo del Prado

It is the main Spanish national art museum, home to many masterpieces by the likes of Goya, Velázquez, Rembrandt, Rubens, El Greco, etc.

Las Meninas by Velázquez
One of my favourites: Las Meninas by Velázquez

PS: you can have free access from Monday to Saturday (18.00-20.00 h) and Sundays and holidays (17.00-19.00 h)

  • Puerta del Sol or Gate of the Sun

It is a public square in Madrid and where the centre (Km 0) of the radial network of Spanish roads is. It’s usually full of people so be careful of pickpockets!

*The square also contains the famous clock whose bells mark the traditional eating of the 12 grapes for the beginning of the new year.
